Unionization of Industry

During the 1800's workers began to get fed up with the working conditions and unfair treatment the employers projected on their employees. In order to combat this workers would form groups known as "unions." Unions were like a political system in a sense. Workers would join one and union leaders would speak on behalf of the workers and whatever demands or comments they had towards the boss or owners of the company. So lets say workers are upset about the unsanitary conditions they have to work in. They would go to the union leaders and have them present their problems to people in charge of the company. But as you can probably see it's not always that easy. Sometimes in order for workers to get their demands they would have to use a little bit of collective bargaining. Workers would threaten to cease working or go on strike if they did not get their demands met.

I think that unions are a good thing because it keeps the corporations from getting to powerful and possibly wrecking the economy. But I also think that sometimes unions can be a bad thing because they can make outrageous demands to companies or run companies into the ground. This too can also be bad for the economy. So it works both ways and there just needs to be a easy median for things to run smoothly.
